A detailed wax model is built first, then encased in a ceramic mold. When the mold is heated, the wax melts away and molten bronze, an alloy of copper and tin, is poured into the cavity left behind. Once cooled, the statue is removed, then carefully finished, patinated and polished by hand. Bronze has been used this way for centuries because it is strong, weather-resistant and ages with character. No two pieces come out identical. That individuality is visible in every finished statue.

Bronze is not a static material. Outdoors, whether in a garden, a memorial space or at a graveside, the surface gradually develops a natural patina.
