Custom-made Cremation Urns and Cremation Jewelry
Create a personal custom-made cremation urn or cremation jewelry piece
Sometimes no standard memorial feels quite right for the memory you want to preserve. You may be looking for a cremation urn in a particular shape, a piece of cremation jewelry with personal meaning, an engraving in a loved one’s handwriting, or a design based on one person, one memory or one family story. In those situations, a custom-made memorial can be a fitting solution.
legendURN helps families in the United States create custom-made cremation urns, cremation jewelry, ash pendants, artist urns, sculpture urns and personal remembrance objects. Together with experienced artists, goldsmiths, ceramicists, glass studios and metal workshops, we explore which design is possible and which solution best matches your wish, budget and intended place.
In short: you can send us a sketch, photograph, description, symbol, material preference or personal story. We will then check which type of custom-made urn, jewelry piece or remembrance object is possible, which workshop is suitable and what costs and delivery times you should roughly expect.

Direct to the most important information:
What can be custom-made?
Custom-made work can take many forms. Some families want a small adjustment, such as an engraving, a different color or a personal symbol. Others are looking for a completely new object, developed from the first sketch to the finished urn, piece of jewelry or personal remembrance object. The most important thing is that the design is technically possible, suitable for its intended use and appropriate for the place where it will be kept, worn or displayed.
| Type of custom work | Possible wishes | What needs extra attention |
|---|---|---|
| Custom-made cremation urn | Shape, color, material, symbolism, capacity, engraving, photograph, ornament or special surface finish. | Capacity for cremated remains, place of display, indoor or outdoor use, suitability for cremated remains, material durability and product dimensions. |
| Custom-made cremation jewelry | Ash pendant, ring, bracelet, engraving, fingerprint, lock of hair, precious metal or reworking an existing piece of jewelry. | Comfort, material, everyday wear, filling method, finish, durability and the personal meaning of the piece. |
| Artist urn or sculpture urn | Unique shape, abstract art object, natural stone, bronze, glass, ceramic, stainless steel, copper or a combination of materials. | Artistic execution, stability, care, place of display, weight, delivery time and personal significance. |
| Engraving and personalization | Name, date, short text, handwriting, symbol, coordinates, photograph, fingerprint or personal dedication. | Readability, spelling, font, material suitability and final approval before production. |
Do you have an idea for a personal urn or piece of jewelry?
You are welcome to send us a sketch, photograph, text or short description of your wish. Via our contact form, you can tell us what type of custom-made memorial you are looking for and what meaning the object should carry.
How does custom-made work proceed?
A custom-made memorial needs care. That is why we work in clear steps. This helps you understand what is possible, which decisions need to be made and when costs arise. Not every idea can be reproduced exactly, but through careful assessment we can usually determine which form, material and workshop are most suitable.
1. Send your wish, idea or example
The process begins with your idea. You can send us a sketch, photograph, description, symbol, material example or personal story. Even if your wish is not yet fully developed, we can explore together which direction is realistic.
Thanks to our network of more than 100 artists and specialist workshops, we can assess many different styles and materials, from classic to modern, from discreet to artistic, and from ceramic and glass to natural stone, bronze, stainless steel or precious metal.

2. First assessment, design direction and cost indication
Based on your information, we check which execution may be possible and which artist or workshop could be suitable. If the idea is realistic, you will receive an initial assessment. In many cases, a rough sketch, material direction or comparable example can be discussed.
This first stage is about finding out whether your wish can be achieved technically, visually and financially. For this initial orientation, we usually do not charge production costs. Only if you want to continue to the next step will the design be worked out in more detail.
3. Final design, price and delivery time
Once the direction is right, the design is made more specific. Shape, dimensions, material, engraving, text, color, surface, symbolism and technical details can be discussed. For jewelry, we also consider size, comfort, finish and possible personalization. For urns intended for a specific place, such as a cemetery, memorial park or columbarium niche, local rules, dimensions and material requirements may also play a role.
Before production starts, you receive a clear summary with the final price, expected delivery time and relevant details. Engravings, names, dates and text should be checked very carefully at this stage. The item will only be made after your approval.
4. Creation, quality check and delivery
After approval, the custom-made item is commissioned. Many individual urns, jewelry pieces and personal memorial objects are made by hand. Because of this, production can take several weeks. With more complex work, intermediate sketches or photographs from the production process may sometimes be possible.
Once the item is finished, it is checked and then shipped, or in the case of larger objects, delivered by arrangement. For custom-made urns intended for a cemetery, memorial park or columbarium niche, delivery and placement requirements should be checked separately.
Which information helps with a custom-made memorial?
The more clearly you describe your wish, the better we can assess the possibilities. You do not need a finished design. A few notes, images or keywords are often enough to find the right direction.
| Information | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| What is your idea or story? | The personal meaning helps us choose a fitting shape, symbolism and style. |
| What type of object would you like? | A cremation urn, ash pendant, ring, bracelet, artist urn or sculpture urn all have different technical requirements. |
| Where will the object be placed or worn? | Indoor use, outdoor use, home display, cemetery placement, memorial park placement, columbarium niche or daily wear all place different demands on material and finish. |
| Which material do you prefer? | Ceramic, glass, wood, natural stone, bronze, stainless steel, silver and gold differ in appearance, price, care and suitability. |
| Do you have examples or photographs? | Examples help us understand style, proportions and the atmosphere you are looking for. |
| Should ashes, hair, fabric or soil be used? | The remembrance material influences the technique, design and practical possibilities. |
| Should engraving, text or a symbol be added? | Font, placement, readability and spelling must be checked carefully before production. |
| Is there a budget or preferred delivery time? | This helps us assess which materials and production methods are realistic. |
Materials and possibilities
With custom-made work, the material determines not only the appearance, but also the price, care, weight, delivery time and suitable place of use. A cremation urn for indoor placement can have different properties from an urn for a cemetery, memorial park or sheltered outdoor setting. A piece of cremation jewelry worn every day has different material requirements again.
Ceramic and porcelain
Suitable for individual shapes, colors, glazes and symbolic details. Depending on the finish, these materials are mainly suitable for indoor use or selected outdoor applications.
Glass and crystal glass
Suitable for artistic urns, light effects, color and modern forms. Glass has an elegant appearance, but is more sensitive to impact and strong temperature changes.
Natural stone
Suitable for sculpture urns, artist urns and outdoor memorial objects. Marble, granite and other stone types differ in hardness, care and appearance.
Bronze, copper and stainless steel
Suitable for durable cremation urns, modern memorial objects, artist urns and outdoor applications. Surface, patina, care and weather resistance should be discussed carefully.
Silver and gold
Suitable for cremation jewelry, ash pendants, rings, bracelets and personal reworking of existing jewelry. Engraving and finish are assessed individually.
Wood and natural materials
Suitable for understated cremation urns, small memorial objects and symbolic designs. Wood is a natural material and is usually best suited to indoor placement.
Custom-made cremation jewelry and personal memorial jewelry
A custom-made piece of jewelry can be a very personal form of remembrance. Possible options include ash pendants, ash rings, bracelets, lockets, jewelry with a fingerprint, engraving, lock of hair or a small piece of fabric. In some cases, existing jewelry, such as a wedding ring, can be reworked or incorporated into a new memorial piece.
If ashes are not used, or if another form of remembrance feels more appropriate, alternatives may include hair, fabric, soil from a grave, a fingerprint, handwriting, a photograph or an engraving.

What does a custom-made urn or jewelry piece cost?
The cost of a custom-made cremation urn or jewelry piece depends strongly on material, size, design, working time, technique, engraving, surface finish and delivery requirements. A simple engraving is much less expensive than a completely new artist urn or custom-made piece of cremation jewelry.
The following prices are only indicative guide prices. The final price depends on the design, material, amount of work and technical execution.
| Type of work | Indicative guide price | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Simple engraving | Often around $30 to $60 | Depends on material, text length, font and execution. |
| Custom natural stone urn | Often from around $600 | Price depends on stone type, size, finish and desired shape. |
| Custom item in precious metal, glass or stainless steel | Often from around $700 | Strongly influenced by material value, handwork and technical execution. |
| Complex custom-made memorial | Often from around $2,000 | For example artist urns, sculpture urns or highly individual designs. |
How long does custom-made work take?
The delivery time depends on the material, workshop, scope and approval process. For many custom-made items, you should allow an average delivery time of around six weeks. Simple engravings may be faster, while complex artist work, stonework or precious metal jewelry can take longer.
Practical notes for custom-made memorials in the United States
With custom-made cremation urns, cremation jewelry and personal memorial objects, practical requirements can be important. These requirements may differ by state, cemetery, memorial park, funeral home, crematory, property owner or site manager.
- Cremation jewelry: if ashes, hair or another remembrance material will be used, check the practical and personal wishes before production starts.
- Several memorial objects: if ashes will be divided between several items, discuss this with the family and, where needed, the funeral home or crematory.
- Urns for a cemetery, memorial park or columbarium niche: size, material, durability and capacity for cremated remains may be relevant.
- Outdoor placement: not every material is suitable for weather, moisture or permanent outdoor use.
- Scattering or burying ashes: if ashes will be scattered or buried outside private property, check permission and local requirements first. For burial at sea, federal EPA rules may apply.
Important: our guidance does not replace legal advice or formal approval from a cemetery, memorial park, funeral home, crematory, property owner, state authority or site manager. For human ashes and formal memorial settings, the relevant requirements should always be checked before production starts.
When is custom-made work suitable, and when is it not?
A custom-made cremation urn or jewelry piece is suitable when a standard model does not match the memory, the place or the desired design. It is especially meaningful when the object should carry a personal story, a specific symbol, a special material choice or an individual inscription.
Custom-made work may be less suitable when very little time is available, when the budget is very limited, or when the desired design is technically or practically not possible. In such cases, an existing urn, piece of cremation jewelry or memorial item with engraving, a small adjustment or a personal accessory may be the better solution.
Frequently asked questions about custom-made cremation urns and cremation jewelry
Can I have a cremation urn designed completely according to my wishes?
In many cases, yes. Whether a fully individual urn is possible depends on material, shape, size, technical execution, intended place and budget. A first sketch, photograph or description helps us assess the request.
Can a custom-made cremation urn also be made for outdoor use?
Yes, but the material must suit outdoor placement. Weather, moisture, UV light and location all play an important role. Always check whether the chosen urn or memorial object is explicitly suitable for outdoor use.
Can existing jewelry be reworked into cremation jewelry?
Sometimes this is possible. For example, a ring, gold jewelry or another personal piece can sometimes be adapted or incorporated into a new memorial item. Feasibility depends on the material, condition and desired design.
Can ashes be placed in a custom-made piece of jewelry?
This may be possible depending on the jewelry design and filling method. If ashes are not used, hair, fabric, soil from a grave, a fingerprint, photograph or engraving can be meaningful alternatives.
Can a custom-made cremation urn be placed in a cemetery or columbarium niche?
Sometimes, yes. If a custom-made urn will be placed in a cemetery, memorial park or columbarium niche, always check the required dimensions, material rules and placement requirements before production starts.
How long does custom-made work take?
Many custom-made items take around six weeks. Depending on material, workshop, design and complexity, it may be faster or take considerably longer. Before final approval, you will receive an expected delivery time.
Can I make changes before production starts?
Yes, as long as the design has not yet been finally approved and production has not started. After approval and the start of production, changes are often no longer possible or may involve extra costs.
What happens if an idea is technically not possible?
We will look for an alternative solution with you. Sometimes a different material, adjusted shape or other technique can achieve a similar result.
Can a custom-made item be returned?
Custom-made and personalized items are made specifically for one family and usually cannot be returned unless something is faulty or does not match the agreed design.
