Once the painting is complete, a transparent glaze is applied: a glass powder dissolved in water, sprayed to a precise thickness using a glaze gun. The urn then goes into the kiln at between 1,050 and 1,250 degrees Celsius, where the powder melts into a protective glass layer that simultaneously intensifies and seals the colors beneath it. Before that firing can happen, the glazed urn dries for several days. It is a slow process, and that patience shows in the finished piece.

Present at home, not conspicuous as a memorial

The glaze layer protects the painted decoration from light and dust, and because the design sits beneath the glass rather than on top of it, the colors are not vulnerable to ordinary indoor light or fluctuations in room temperature. Keep the urn dry and clean it only with a dry or lightly damp cloth. This urn is designed for indoor use and is not suitable for burning a candle inside.

What to be aware of with ceramic

Ceramic is durable when handled with care, but it is not impact-resistant. Avoid placing the urn where it could be knocked. Do not use water, cleaning products or abrasives on the surface. With sensible everyday care, the decoration and glaze will remain stable for many years.
