How this urn is made

Production begins with specially selected raw materials, blended into a liquid ceramic casting mass. A plaster model is made first, based on a detailed design drawing, and that model becomes the basis for a casting mold. The liquid ceramic is poured into the mold, left to set, removed carefully and smoothed by hand across the surface. It then goes into the kiln for a first firing at 900 °C. Once the enamel glaze has been applied, the urn is fired a second time at 1,200 °C. That double firing is what gives the color its depth and the ceramic its strength and solidity.
