A memorial that stays with you

Choosing a grave memorial is one of the hardest decisions you will face, especially when you are already carrying so much. This granite monument, set with a treated glass panel bearing a color or black-and-white photograph, gives the grave a face. Not just a name carved in stone, but a real likeness, recognized by everyone who visits.

Granite and glass: why these materials matter

Granite is one of the most durable natural stones used in memorial work. It holds its structure and color over decades, stands up to frost, rain and sun, and asks very little of you once it is in place. The glass panel is specially treated for outdoor use and handles changing weather conditions without degrading. The photograph is not printed onto the surface of the glass but bonded into the material itself, which is what gives the image its lasting sharpness. That distinction matters: a surface print can fade or peel over time, while a photo embedded in the glass remains clear year after year.

The photograph at the heart of the memorial

You choose whether to use a color photograph or a black-and-white one, and it is worth thinking about what each brings. A color photograph returns the person as they were in everyday life, present and recognizable. A black-and-white photograph gives the monument a quieter, more enduring character. There is no right answer, and you do not need to make that decision until the design takes shape.

Personalization: beyond the photograph

Alongside the photograph, the monument can be personalized with a name, date of birth, date of death and a short personal text. The texts that best describe the bond you shared are usually the simplest ones.

Practical things worth knowing before you order

Ordering a grave memorial requires a little preparation. Cemetery regulations vary, and it is worth checking the rules that apply to your particular site before you commit to a design.

Check with your cemetery first

Before placing an order, it is strongly advisable to speak with your cemetery manager or local authority about what is and is not permitted at your site. Some cemeteries specify permitted dimensions, materials or forms for grave monuments. Others require that installation is carried out only by approved local stonemasons. Any concrete base slab and pile foundations beneath it will need to be installed by the cemetery directly. If you are placing the memorial in a private garden rather than a cemetery, a plastic urn vault is available that you can install yourself. Custom dimensions can also be discussed.

Approval before production

Once you place your order, we will send you a design proof for approval before anything goes into production. This gives you the chance to review every detail, including the photograph, the layout and any inscribed text, so that you can order with confidence.

If you have questions about photo requirements, personalization options or the ordering process, we are happy to talk you through it at whatever pace suits you.
