A tree that keeps growing, long after loss

Some symbols carry real weight. The Tree of Life is one of them: roots that anchor, branches that reach outward, a life that continues through the people it touched. If you are looking for something that holds that feeling quietly and fits naturally into a home, this keepsake urn from Royal Delft was made for exactly that.

Hand-painted by Royal Delft master painters

Royal Delft has been making Delft Blue since 1653, not as a manufactured product but as a craft passed down through generations of painters. Each Tree of Life motif begins with charcoal outlines, laid in by hand. The panel painters then work the detail entirely freehand, using brushes made from marten and squirrel hair. The paint is water-based, and the painters vary the ratio of paint to water to produce the characteristic gradations of blue you see across each piece. The color itself comes from cobalt oxide, mixed to a recipe that has remained essentially unchanged for centuries. During firing, beneath the glaze, what was painted in near-black transforms into the unmistakable Delft Blue. That shift is not accidental. It is the result of a process refined over hundreds of years, and it shows in the finished piece.

What the Tree of Life means for this person

The tree connects what was with what remains. The roots stand for everything your loved one built: a family, a home, memories that do not fade. The branches represent what they gave to others, to you and to everyone around you who is grieving alongside you. If you look at those people now, you can already see that tree. This urn gives that image a place.

Made to be held, and to last

This mini urn for ashes is hand-formed and hand-painted ceramic, small enough to sit in the palm of your hand and substantial enough to feel considered. It works as a meaningful object in a home interior, present in daily life rather than set apart from it.

Closure and keeping the contents safe

The urn is sealed at the base with a natural cork stopper and a blue closure seal, specific to the Tree of Life. The seal keeps the contents secure whether the urn is handled daily or simply rests in one place. Because ceramic is sensitive to frost and prolonged moisture, this urn is intended for indoor use only. A sheltered spot inside the home is the right environment for it, and will protect both the contents and the painted surface over time.

A note on care at home

People find their own ways to mark a loss, and the need for something physical to return to is entirely natural. This keepsake urn offers a considered, handcrafted vessel for a portion of a loved one's ashes, sized to sit within everyday life rather than demand attention from it. Royal Delft brings the same standard of craftsmanship to these pieces as to any object leaving their Delft atelier.

If the Tree of Life is not quite right, something personal can be made

Alongside the hand-painted collection, Royal Delft offers the option of a bespoke decoration. If you have a specific motif in mind, something tied directly to the bond you shared, a place that mattered, a flower that was always in the house, a pattern your loved one admired, that can be developed in conversation with one of the master painters and worked into a design made for this person specifically.

Royal Delft: a craft since 1653

Royal Delft is the only remaining original Delft Blue pottery house in the Netherlands. The hand-painting tradition sits at the center of everything they produce, supported by additional techniques developed over the centuries to maintain the quality of the earthenware. Every piece that leaves the atelier carries the evidence of both: the precision of an ancient process and the eye of a painter working entirely by hand. When you choose this cremation urn, that heritage comes with it.

If you would like help thinking through a bespoke design or have any questions, we are happy to talk it through with you at your own pace.
