Each urn is made by hand in the Netherlands by skilled craftspeople who work with bronze sheet, shaping it through welding and bending until the form is complete. That process demands accuracy at every stage, and the quality of the finish reflects it. Bronze is one of the most enduring materials available for a cremation urn. It does not degrade, requires no protective coating at its core, and is suited to both indoor and outdoor placement.

Patina: why no two urns are identical

The color comes from patina, an oxide layer applied to the bronze surface entirely by hand. Because each application is individual, the depth of tone and the fine variations in pattern differ from piece to piece. You choose between green or brown, and the urn you receive will be the only one of its kind.

Caring for your urn over time

The choice between green and brown patina affects more than appearance. Each finish has its own care needs, and understanding that from the start means the urn will look its best for years to come.

Green patina

The green finish requires only gentle cleaning with a soft cloth, water and a mild soap solution. Avoid scrubbing, as the patina layer is sensitive to abrasion. Over time the color will settle and deepen naturally.

Brown patina with wax layer

The brown finish is protected by a light wax coating that slows oxidation and prevents the bronze from shifting toward green. Indoors, keeping the surface dust-free is sufficient. If the urn is placed outside, the wax layer should be refreshed with beeswax at least every two years, depending on exposure and weather conditions. Apply beeswax with a cloth, allow it to absorb, then buff gently.

Practical details and what to expect

Everything needed to fill and seal the urn is included when it arrives. The closure uses double-sided sealing tape rated to a very high tensile load, so the urn stays firmly shut. If you would prefer the crematorium or funeral director to handle the filling, that is straightforward to arrange. Should the urn ever need to be reopened, our technicians can do that for you.

Filling the urn

The urn arrives with an ash bag, a cable tie, a cleaning cloth and sealing tape. Place the ash bag into the urn and use the protruding section as a funnel to pour the ashes in. Secure the bag with the cable tie and tuck it fully inside. If you choose not to use the ash bag, a separate funnel is advisable to avoid spillage. Once filled, make sure the inner rim is completely free of dust, grease and moisture using the cloth provided. Peel the protective film from the lid, position it carefully against the rim and press it down in a single firm movement. When it is correctly seated, the lid sits flush with the surrounding surface.

Lead time

Because each mini urn for ashes is made by hand in the Netherlands using quality materials, the lead time is four to six weeks. In practice, shipping is often possible sooner, but we quote six weeks to avoid any disappointment.
