Two lives, one tree
Some losses are singular. Losing two people who shared a life is something different again. This companion cremation urn was made for exactly that: to hold the ashes of two people together, in a form that reflects what they were to each other.
What the tree means here
The tree is not a decorative choice. It carries the shape of a life: roots, growth, branching out over time. The arching forms represent departure. Together they speak quietly about connection and about the path two people walked alongside each other. If you are choosing an urn for two people whose lives were genuinely intertwined, this design holds that meaning directly.
Corten steel: a material that earns its appearance
Corten steel is an iron-based alloy containing copper, phosphorus, silicon, nickel and chromium. That specific combination produces an oxide layer on the surface dense enough to protect the steel beneath from further corrosion. No paint or coating is needed. The strength is comparable to other structural steels, but the weight and character are entirely its own.
This urn for ashes is shaped by bending and welding flat sheet steel. The quality of those welds determines whether the joins are tight and lasting. That kind of precision takes time and skill, and it shows in the finished piece.
How the rust layer develops
During production, the steel is treated to accelerate the oxidation process so that the protective layer begins forming sooner. In the first few weeks, a loose surface layer may flake slightly. This is the mill scale formed during manufacture, and it is a normal part of the process. The initial color is a vivid orange-brown, which deepens and settles over the months and years that follow. Any patchy or uneven coloring in the early stages resolves naturally over time. The surface can be cleaned with water and mild dish soap. If the surface is scratched or damaged, the oxide layer will begin to reform, and the color in that area will temporarily differ from the surrounding patina before it catches up.
Practical considerations before you place the urn
Indoor use and surface protection
This cremation urn is designed for indoor use. The oxide layer is stable, but during the early stages it can release rust water onto the surface beneath. Place the urn on a saucer or coaster made from a non-porous material. The urn holds ashes with or without an ash bag.
Surfaces and materials to avoid
We do not recommend placing this urn directly on porous stone or in contact with stainless steel, even indoors. Rust water can permanently stain porous surfaces, and contact with stainless steel can interfere with the oxidation process. A simple non-porous base solves both concerns and keeps the urn looking its best.
Making the placement your own
The tree form already carries the story of two lives shared. What you place around it can add a layer of specific meaning. A coaster or small tray with a date, a place name, or a line that meant something to them both can give the arrangement a context that feels personal rather than generic.
If you have questions about this urn or how to arrange a meaningful placement, we are happy to think it through with you at whatever pace suits.
