A break that became gold

Kintsugi is not a decorative theme. It is a Japanese philosophy that holds what has been broken and healed to be more valuable for it. If you are looking for something that holds both the loss and the love at once, this keepsake urn does that quietly and honestly.

What Kintsugi means, and why it matters here

Kintsugi, also known as Kintsukuroi, is the Japanese art of repairing broken ceramics with gold or silver lacquer. The cracks are not hidden. They are made visible, because in Japanese aesthetics the marks of breakage and repair are part of what makes an object beautiful. For you, that idea may feel familiar: the bond you shared leaves a real mark, and that mark carries meaning. This urn carries the same understanding on its surface, in the gold lines that trace its form.

How this urn is made

The teardrop shape is a considered choice. It combines a sense of fragility with something solid, and that feeling runs through the making of it. Ceramic has been used for centuries, across cultures, for objects intended to last. The word itself comes from the Greek keramos, and the tradition it carries is a long one.

A two-firing production process

A plaster model is made from a technical drawing and used as the master mold for casting. Each piece is cast, removed from the mold and left to dry. Once dry, the surface is smoothed and the urn is fired at 900°C. A glaze is then applied and the urn goes back into the kiln for a second firing at 1050°C. That double-firing process, using a carefully mixed ceramic body, is what gives the finished piece its density and depth. The gold leaf lines that form the Kintsugi pattern are not applied afterward as decoration. They are part of the original design intent.

An object that endures

Ceramic urns are durable and ask very little of you over time. The black glaze with gold leaf holds its depth and appearance with no special maintenance. Because this cremation urn is designed for indoor use, the glaze retains its richness exactly as intended.

Practical things worth knowing

Ceramic is strong but not unbreakable. Place the urn on a stable, level surface away from busy areas of the room. Kept indoors and handled with ordinary care, this is an urn for ashes that will show no visible wear over many years. It does not ask anything more of you than that.

Making it personal

Its presence invites you to build something personal around it. A photograph nearby, a meaningful object, a handwritten card placed beside it: these things together can shape the place you choose into something that feels entirely yours.

Take the time you need to consider whether this urn fits who your loved one was, and what you need to give that memory a place. If it would help to talk it through, we are happy to do that with you.
