When saying goodbye becomes the beginning of something living
Not every urn is made to sit on a shelf. This bamboo keepsake urn is made for something different: returning a portion of ashes to the earth and letting something grow in their place. A lavender plant. A young tree. A corner of the garden that will always belong to them.
Handworked from a real bamboo stem
The urn is cut and shaped by hand from a genuine bamboo stem. Bamboo is naturally strong, but when buried in soil it breaks down gradually, allowing tree roots to absorb the ashes over time. That process is not a flaw in the material; it is exactly what this urn is designed to do. Bamboo also stores considerably more CO2 than timber, so the choice of material carries its own environmental intention.
What comes with the urn
Each urn is supplied with a coconut tablet (70 mm) containing starter nutrients and lavender seeds, along with a cover disc that naturally shields the ashes as the bamboo decomposes.
A place that keeps growing
If you are looking for a way to give the ashes a destination rather than a resting place, this mini urn for ashes offers something that feels connected to the bond you shared. The lavender or tree that grows above the urn is not simply a plant. It is a place you can return to, one that visibly changes with the seasons and holds the memory in a living, outward form.
How to use the urn, step by step
The bamboo urn is straightforward to prepare:
- Fill the urn with the cremation ashes
- Place the coconut tablet on top and pour water over it until it expands
- Bury the urn in the ground and cover with soil
- After three to four weeks, growth begins (best sown between March and June)
- You can also choose to plant a seedling or cutting of your own choosing above the urn
Volume: what to know before you order
This is a keepsake urn, not a full cremation urn. It holds a portion of the ashes rather than the complete volume for an adult. It works well alongside a larger urn, or as a personal memorial chosen by someone close to the person who has died. If you are unsure whether this size is right for your situation, we are happy to help you think it through.
Outdoor use and how the material behaves
Bamboo performs well outdoors, but it is designed to decompose in contact with moist soil. That is the point. This urn is made to be buried, not to stand above ground as a garden ornament. Using it as a burial urn, placed into the earth, allows the material to work as it was intended. It should not be used as a decorative outdoor object.
A choice that fits who they were
If sustainability, nature or a green outlook mattered to the person you have lost, this urn connects directly to that. You are making a considered choice, giving the ashes a destination that feels right, and creating a place that will be visibly alive for years to come.
If you would like help deciding whether this is the right option, or you have questions about using it alongside another urn, get in touch and we'll talk it through with you at your own pace.
