Two sails, one journey

Some people were always in motion. Drawn forward, free, living with the wind behind them. The 'Sails' cremation urn translates that into bronze: two curved forms rising together, each catching the air, the way two sails move as one. This is not decorative gesture. It is a direct reflection of who someone was.

Two chambers, two possibilities

The 'Sails' urn is available as a companion version with two separate chambers. You can use both for ashes, or keep one for something the person held dear: a photograph, a stone, a small keepsake. That choice is yours, and it makes this urn something more than a place of safekeeping.

Handcrafted in the Netherlands from sheet bronze

Each urn is made by hand in the Netherlands. Specialist craftspeople work sheet bronze by welding and shaping it into the curved forms you see. Every weld and every curve is the result of a precise, skilled process, and that is visible in the finished piece. Because each urn is made to order, the lead time is four to six weeks. Shipping often happens sooner, but we quote six weeks to give you an honest expectation. If you need a more accurate current lead time, contact us via chat or email and we will check for you.

The color you choose carries meaning

Bronze takes color through patination: an oxide layer applied by hand to the surface. Because it is done by hand, no two urns look exactly alike. You can choose between green or brown patina, and each has its own character.

Green patina

The green finish echoes the classical outdoor bronze you see on monuments and sculpture. Over the years, the surface becomes more even in tone. Maintenance is straightforward: wipe away dirt with a soft cloth, water and a little mild soap. Avoid scrubbing hard, as the patina layer is delicate.

Brown patina

The brown patina is sealed beneath a light wax layer, which stops the oxidation process and prevents the bronze from developing further toward green. Indoors, simply keep the surface free of dust. Outside, the wax layer needs occasional attention. Depending on the position and the weather it is exposed to, the wax should be refreshed at least once every two years using beeswax: apply with a cloth, allow it to absorb, then buff to a finish.

Built to last, indoors or out

Bronze does not degrade. The base material needs no maintenance and is suited to placement both indoors and outdoors. The patina layer, depending on your color choice, benefits from periodic care. That is not a weakness in the material. It is the nature of a living surface that responds to its surroundings.

Practical care for outdoor placement

If you place the urn outside with a brown patina finish, keeping the wax layer in good condition is all it takes. Beeswax is easy to find, and refreshing the surface takes very little time. With green patina outdoors, occasional cleaning is sufficient. The bronze itself remains unaffected by prolonged exposure to rain or changes in temperature.

Filling and sealing

All the accessories you need to fill and seal the urn for ashes are included. The urn uses a high-strength double-sided sealing tape rated for considerable tensile load. An ash bag and cable tie are supplied to make the process straightforward, and a cleaning cloth is included so you can ensure the inner seating rim is clean and dry before closing. If you would prefer not to fill the urn yourself, your crematorium or funeral director can do this on your behalf. Should the urn ever need to be reopened, our technicians can assist with that too.

A personal design, or a design made entirely for you

If you are looking for something even closer to the person you have lost, a bespoke design is possible. Send us a sketch, a photograph or a reference, and we will develop a design and provide a quote. The result is a funeral urn that does not just look right. It is right.

Commissioning a bespoke urn

When a standard design is not quite what you have in mind, we can work with you to develop something entirely your own. Share whatever you have, a drawing, an image, a description, and we will take it from there with a design proposal and a clear quote for your approval.

If you have questions about color, the companion configuration or the current lead time, get in touch via chat or email. We are happy to think it through with you, at whatever pace suits you.
